NEET results 2019 were declared on 5th June 2019 with Rajasthan’s Nalin Khandelwal topping the exam. He scored 701 marks out of 720 with an emphatic percentile of 99.9999291. Coming from a family of Doctors, Nalin followed his family’s footsteps to become a doctor. Among 1410755 students appeared for NEET 2019, Nalin Khandelwal scored 701, the highest marks obtained in NEET exam this year, and grabbed the coveted title of NEET AIR 1 Topper. Ques 1: Tell us about yourself and your background.
Nalin Khandelwal (AIR 1): I belong to Sikar district of Rajasthan. My father is a pediatrician and my mother a gynaecologist. My brother is also pursuing MBBS from SNMC Jodhpur.
Ques 2: What is your overall score in NEET 2019?
Nalin Khandelwal (AIR 1): In NEET my overall score is 701 out 720 with a percentile of 99.9999291.
Ques 3: What was your NEET Preparation Strategy and Routine?
Nalin Khandelwal (AIR 1): I fully focused on studies for two years. As my parents are doctors and my elder brother is also pursuing his MBBS, I got full support from them as well as from my teachers. I studied for nearly 7-8 hours a day, going through the NCERT syllabus and coaching centre materials. Apart from NEET UG, I also practiced for JEE Main’s previous year papers. This helped me a lot. I used to do multiple reading of a single topic and prepared notes for revision.
Ques 4: What was your strongest subject among all three subjects?
Nalin Khandelwal (AIR 1): I love Biology. I was pretty confident of Biology and hence I attempted that first followed by Chemistry and then physics.
Ques 5: Have you appeared for other Medical Entrance Exams?
Nalin Khandelwal (AIR 1): Yes, I appeared for AIIMS and JIPMER also.
Ques 6: Did you join any NEET Coaching Institute?
Nalin Khandelwal (AIR 1): Yes, I was enrolled in a 2 year regular NEET coaching program. NEET Coaching proved beneficial to me and it was a great turning point. I get proper guidance, doubt clearing sessions and competitive environment to achieve my goals.
Ques 7: How much time did you devote to self-study vs. coaching?
Nalin Khandelwal (AIR 1): I used to self-study for 7-8 hours after my NEET coaching and at the same time I ensured that I got my seven hours of sleep. My Coaching classes used to take place five days a week and there I used to spend four to five hours.
Ques 8: Any message or advice for future NEET Aspirants?
Nalin Khandelwal (AIR 1): My only advice to the future NEET aspirants is to study thoroughly from NCERT books and read the chapters multiple times so that the concepts are very very clear. Get proper guidance and practice a lot question papers. All the best!
